While WordPress professionals need to know their way around the dashboard, the true power users are interacting with their WordPress websites without even opening a browser.
The tool today is WP-CLI, the command line interface for WordPress. Now if you’re like me, you’re probably not the most comfortable with using your command line terminal. I didn’t grow up signing into usenets: my earliest internet memories were America Online. That said, I’ve reached the point where not a day goes by that I don’t use WP-CLI.
If you can do it in the dashboard, you can probably do it faster with your keyboard. Manage posts, users, plugins, and themes. Run updates, purge your cache. Optimize and debug. WP-CLI is the swiss-army knife of WordPress, and because it doesn’t need to load the actual WordPress dashboard for you, commands are lightning fast.
Watch the full video to see how I’m using WP-CLI in both local and production environments. We’ll dig through some of the most common commands and then I’ll even give a quick demo of WP-CLI’s hidden power: easy custom commands.
If you have any questions, add them in the YouTube comments. And feel free to share this video- and hopefully this whole series- with anyone you think would want it.
