I’m a big fan of the new PHP-only blocks coming to WordPress 7.0. I even experimented with my own solution that was a pretty similar concept, back in the day. Removing the headache and heaviness of JavaScript/React/Webpack from block building is a huge advantage, something that will make it even easier for AI agents to build blocks (something they’re already pretty good at).
In this video, I cover the basics to get you up and running with PHP-only blocks, hit some gotchas along the way, and then share the Agent Skill I’m using with Claude Code for quickly iterating on blocks.
